Volunteers Cleanup Trail Property along Buffalo Creek

Sixteen volunteers convened to remove trash and debris on property recently acquired by the Foundation. The property, located at the mouth of Buffalo Creek across the Elk River from the town of Clay, is anticipated to become a major trailhead and visitor’s center along the Elk River Trail. The existing structure on the property is being prepared for auction based on the value of local hardwoods used in its construction decades ago.

The event was organized and led by Michelle Martin, a Foundation Board member and cleanup activist. “Words can not express how grateful we are for the 16 volunteers that came out today & worked very hard, in some nasty conditions, removing nearly 100 bags of trash,” said Martin.

In addition to the trash removal from the property, trash and tires were also removed from the banks. A local couple also brought a load of tires they pulled out of the Elk River.

The Foundation appreciates the people who are taking action and making an impact. Your help is important to the Elk River Trail’s success and we can’t Thank You enough. If you’re interested in future volunteer activities, email elkrivertrail@gmail.com with your interests.
