US Senator visits Elk River Trail

US Senator Shelley Moore Capito recently visited the Central Appalachia Empowerment Zone (CAEZ) Lodge at the J.G. Bradley Campground in Clay County to show her continued support for the Buffalo Creek Rail Trail, a spur along the Elk River Trail system.

“From miles and miles of rails-to-trails to hike or bike to weekend getaways like the cabins at Walker Creek Farms, Clay is a county on the rise,” Senator Capito posted to her Facebook page after the event.

The event was organized by Mitch DeBoard, President of the Clay County Business Development Authority, and hosted by WV House Speaker Roger Hanshaw, a Clay County native.

Other dignitaries in attendance included WV Delegate Moore Capito, Tourism Commissioner Chelsea Ruby, Clay County Commissioner Fran King and Berkeley Bentley from the Governor’s Office.

The Elk River Trail Foundation would like to thank these leaders for their support in the development of the Rails-to-Trails system. Board members were honored to showcase recent accomplishments and speak to the ongoing and future projects to expand and enhance the trails. The Foundation looks forward to working with these and other dignitaries to see this project through to its completion for the continued economic development of the Elk River area and the enjoyment of its citizens.
