  • Assisted with Trail Town Study for Clendenin

  • Participated in Elk River clean-up project

  • Obtained grant funding and sponsored AmeriCorps team for trail and river clean-up

  • Purchased 2 acres of land at Dundon for trail use, partially paid with grant from TC Energy

  • Accepted gift of 2 acres of land at Queen Shoals for trail use; used grant from Harper Foundation to gravel parking lot for trail users; rehabilitating property for use to accomplish Foundation goals

  • Accepted gift of 1/2 acre of land at Little Italy (Ivydale) and cleared lot for public trail and public river access; exploring possibility of use as a campground

  • Formed Trail Town Committee to pursue creation of trail towns and economic development along the trail

  • Obtained grant from Benedum Foundation and partnered with Braxton County Development Authority to have a $75,000 study conducted to develop trail towns and a tourism and recreation-based economy

  • Awarded $1.365 million grant by Appalachian Regional Commission, with matching funds provided by the Foundation, Braxton County Commission, Advantage Valley, 25045 – A New Clendenin, Inc., Braxton County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Partners Community Capital, for a total project cost of almost $1.8 million to implement the trail town study recommendations, including business coaching, façade renovations, wayfinding signage, marketing, installation of kayak launches, and website improvements

  • With a grant from Cabela’s/Bass Pro Shops, installed a bicycle repair station at the Ivydale Trailhead; seeking grant funding for more

  • Obtained grants from WV DEP and WV-American Water for river clean-ups

  • Obtained grants from WV DEP and Braxton County Convention and Visitors Bureau and purchased mileage marker signs, and working to install the signs every mile along the 101-mile long water trail

  • Obtained funding from Kanawha Coalition for Community Health Improvement and Extreme Terrain installed five benches along the rail trail
